The material published on Synoptikon and Prompting Trust is general information and independent commentary unless expressly stated otherwise.
2. What This Policy Covers
This policy explains how Synoptikon and Prompting Trust collect, use, store, and disclose personal information when you:
- visit Synoptikon;
- subscribe to Prompting Trust;
- request a Synoptikon reader access link;
- access gated content, working material, downloads, or Workbench material;
- purchase a paid reader tier;
- submit a comment; or
- contact us by email or form.
This policy is intended to be clear and practical. It does not limit rights you may have under applicable law.
3. Personal Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:
- your email address;
- your name, if you provide it;
- subscription status and reader tier;
- newsletter preferences and unsubscribe status;
- payment and subscription status from the payment platform;
- comments you submit;
- contact and enquiry messages you send;
- technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, access timestamps, and security logs; and
- cookie or session information used to confirm access to protected Synoptikon material.
For Beehiiv-backed reader access, names, email addresses, subscription status, and membership details remain in Beehiiv. WordPress stores only the Beehiiv subscriber reference and access information described below; it does not create a WordPress reader account or copy the reader name or email into the access-event record. Contact messages and comments are separate and may contain information you choose to provide.
We do not intend to collect sensitive information such as health information, government identifiers, or financial account details through Synoptikon. Payment card details are handled by Stripe, not by Synoptikon directly.
4. How We Collect Information
We collect information when:
- you enter your email to subscribe to Prompting Trust or request a Synoptikon reader link;
- you use a private Synoptikon access link;
- you manage preferences through Prompting Trust or Beehiiv;
- you purchase or manage a paid tier through the subscription platform;
- you submit a comment; or
- you contact us.
Some information is collected directly from you. Some is received from platforms used to operate the site and newsletter, including Beehiiv, WordPress, Stripe, transactional email providers, and hosting and security providers.
5. Why We Use Personal Information
We use personal information to:
- provide Synoptikon reader access and send private access links;
- manage Prompting Trust subscriptions and email preferences;
- deliver newsletters and other emails you have requested;
- process paid subscriptions and tier access;
- protect gated content, working material, downloads, and comments;
- moderate and display comments;
- troubleshoot access, email, and site issues;
- understand how the site and content are used;
- maintain security, prevent abuse, and investigate technical problems; and
- comply with legal obligations.
Newsletter opt-in and Synoptikon content access are separate. Requesting a reader link does not, by itself, add you to the Prompting Trust mailing list unless the form or flow clearly invites that and you choose it.
6. Reader Access Links and Cookies
Synoptikon uses private, time-limited access links to confirm reader access.
When a valid access link is used, Synoptikon may set a signed reader cookie or session so the site can remember your access for a limited period. This cookie is issued by Synoptikon. Beehiiv subscriber status may inform access decisions, but Beehiiv cookies do not directly unlock WordPress content.
Reader access may depend on your Beehiiv subscriber record, subscriber status, and subscription tier. Access may not be granted where a subscriber record is unknown, unconfirmed, suppressed, or otherwise ineligible.
Unsubscribing from Prompting Trust emails does not automatically remove Synoptikon reader access if your subscriber record remains eligible. Access rules may vary by tier and content type.
7. Comments
Comments may be visible to site visitors. Only eligible readers may submit comments.
Comments are moderated. We may approve, remove, decline, or close comments at any time.
If you submit a comment, we may store the comment and related metadata needed to moderate and display it.
8. Email and Marketing
Prompting Trust emails are managed through Beehiiv.
Emails that are commercial or newsletter in nature identify the sender and include a way to unsubscribe. You can manage email preferences through links in the emails or through the subscription platform.
Transactional access emails, such as private Synoptikon reader links, are sent separately from newsletter emails and are not used to add you to marketing lists unless you have opted in.
9. Payments
Paid reader tiers are processed through Stripe. Synoptikon does not directly store full payment card details.
We may receive payment status, subscription status, tier, billing period, and transaction metadata needed to provide access and manage subscriptions.
10. Access reporting
Synoptikon records limited first-party events for gated articles and downloads. Event records may contain a Beehiiv subscriber reference, resolved and required access levels, page or asset reference, outcome, timestamp, session reference, and hashed technical security data. They do not contain your name or email address.
Authorised administrators may request a live identity lookup from Beehiiv for a stored subscriber reference when reviewing access. The returned identity is displayed for that request and is not saved into the WordPress event record. Synoptikon does not use these events for advertising or cross-site behavioural profiling.
11. Third-Party Platforms
Synoptikon and Prompting Trust use third-party platforms to operate the site, newsletter, payments, email, hosting, and security. Current or likely providers include:
- WordPress, for site publishing and comments;
- Beehiiv, for Prompting Trust subscriber records, email preferences, and newsletter delivery;
- Stripe, for payments and subscriptions;
- transactional email providers, for access links and system email;
- hosting and security providers.
These providers may store or process information outside Australia.
12. Overseas Disclosure
Some providers may be based outside Australia or may store data overseas. By using Synoptikon, subscribing to Prompting Trust, requesting access, or purchasing a paid tier, your information may be processed in the countries where these providers operate.
13. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.
No online system can be guaranteed secure. Please do not submit confidential, sensitive, employer-related, client-related, or regulated information through comments, public forms, or access-request forms.
14. Data Retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, including to provide access, maintain subscription records, moderate comments, resolve disputes, maintain security, and meet legal obligations.
Raw Synoptikon access events are retained for 12 months. Subscriber identity, email preferences, and membership records remain in Beehiiv under its applicable retention controls. Other record types may have different retention periods where needed for security, legal obligations, comments, or support.
15. Access, Correction, and Deletion
You can contact admin@synoptikon.com to ask about personal information held by Synoptikon or to request correction or deletion.
Some subscriber and payment records may need to be managed through Beehiiv, Stripe, or the relevant platform. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
16. Complaints

We will try to respond within a reasonable time.
If the Australian Privacy Act applies and you are not satisfied with the response, you may have the right to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
17. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
